The owners wanted more kitchen and dining space without altering the character of the house. The extension is deliberately restrained: dark-painted facing brick matching the existing party wall, a single roof light over the dining table, and full-width timber-framed sliding doors to the garden.
The floor level is maintained across the threshold — the kitchen floor tile continues as decking under the fully open door, so inside and outside read as one room in summer. The structural beam is concealed in the ceiling line. There is no junction detail that announces the extension.
Ten weeks on site, occupied throughout. The family lived in the front rooms while we worked from the rear. The programme was built around the school run.
